Welcome to the Coastal Granddaughter Spotlight Series
Coastal Granddaughter is about more than a place, it’s about the memories, traditions, and connections that bring us back to the coast, generation after generation.
For our first Coastal Granddaughter Spotlight, we’re introducing Rachel who's connection to the Cape spans generations.
Meet Rachel: A Coastal Granddaughter
Rachel’s grandparents’ time on the Cape created memories and traditions that became part of Rachel’s own story and today, Rachel is fortunate enough to call the Cape home. Her story is a beautiful example of what it means to be a Coastal Granddaughter: carrying a love of the coast forward while creating new memories and traditions of her own.

Tell us a little about yourself and your connection to Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard, or Nantucket.
Cape Cod isn’t just a place for summer vacation or somewhere you visit-it’s so much more than that. It’s a way of life!
My grandparents started coming to the Cape in the early 60’s, bringing their kids along each summer. At first my dad and his 6 siblings weren’t exactly thrilled about going, but it didn’t take long for them to realize how special the Cape was. What started as family trips became a lifelong love for this place, and today, they still call the Cape home.
More than 60 years later, that love for the Cape has been passed down through generations and I’m so grateful to be part of that story! I’m a true coastal grand-daughter!

What does the Cape mean to you personally?
My love for the Cape runs deep. It’s hard to put into words because it’s so much more than a favorite place, it’s my home.
I spent many summers working on the Cape. I worked at Pirates Cove Miniature Golf for many years, made lifelong friends, and it’s still one of my favorite places to go.
I come from a huge family and so many of us have houses near one another that it almost feels like our own little Cape Cod family compound. Summer days are spent together on Lewis Bay in Nantucket Sound at the beach-swimming, sailing, boating, and enjoying the kind of days you wish could last forever!
My grandparents house was always full of people. We had lots of family dinners, cookouts, parties, and there was always something fun going on. Those big family gatherings are some of my most treasured memories.
Is there a place on the Cape that feels especially meaningful to you? Why?
And one of my absolute favorite things to do is boat over to Baxter’s Boat House in Hyannis Harbor (the best waterfront views) with all my family and friends. We dock our boats, grab some food and drinks, and have the best time together on the water, until the sun goes down!

Another one of my favorite things about the Cape is going sailing with my family on our Wianno Senior sailboat. I come from a big boating family and there’s nothing better than a gorgeous sail in Lewis Bay!

Getting married on the Cape was the easiest decision-there was nowhere else in the world I would have wanted to celebrate that special day.

“To me, the Cape is…”
The Cape is truly my favorite place to be. I don’t just love the Cape-it’s part of who I am. What my grandparents started all those years ago, has become such a part of our family story, and I’ll always be grateful to be a true coastal granddaughter!
